Cookies & storage

Effective 31 July 2026

In plain language

One cookie keeps you signed in. Your browser's local storage keeps challenge drafts so you never lose work. Analytics and marketing storage are OFF by default and only turn on if you consent — and 'Reject all' is one click, same as 'Accept'.

What we actually set

  • pv_session (cookie, strictly necessary) — keeps you signed in to your profile. No tracking, no third parties.
  • pv_consent (cookie, strictly necessary) — remembers your consent choice so we don’t ask on every visit.
  • pv_draft_* (local storage, functional) — autosaves your challenge answers on your own device so a closed tab never costs you 50 minutes of work. Never transmitted until you submit.
  • Analytics storage (off by default) — if you consent, anonymous usage measurement to see which pages help people. Denied unless you opt in, and we honour the Global Privacy Control signal as a refusal.
  • Marketing storage (off by default) — not currently used at all; the category exists in the banner so that if it is ever introduced, it starts denied.

Consent Mode

We implement Google Consent Mode v2 semantics: analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization all default to denied before you choose, and only update to what you actually granted. Rejecting is as prominent and as fast as accepting, there are no pre-ticked boxes, and your choice is re-askable — not buried.
